Manchester United vs Derby County
English League Cup
Date: Tuesday, 25 September 2018
Kick-Off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CETVenue: Old Trafford (Manchester)
What an occasion will it be for Frank Lampard to visit Old Trafford for the first time in the managerial role as his Derby County is about to lock horns with Manchester United on Tuesday evening. The Rams have been dealt one of the toughest draws possible for this stage of the competition, but the clash with such heavyweights should at least give their players a massive challenge to prove they have what it takes to stay competitive against this sort of opposition.
Derby began the League Cup campaign in some style, demolishing Hull City 0-4 away at KCOM Stadium in the second round. Martin Waghorn, Florian Jozefzoon and Mason Mount were among goalscorers, while main striker David Nugent was rested on the occasion.
Speaking of Nugent, he took his league tally to two goals netting one of team’s three in a comeback victory over Brentford on Saturday at Pride Park Stadium.
Manchester United vs Derby County: Prediction
Jose Mourinho’s men slipped up once again on Saturday, failing to see off recently-promoted Wolves at Old Trafford. It was a surprising result after a brilliant display he team offered in the maiden round of the new Champions League season (0-3 victory over Swiss champions Young Boys away from home).
Derby, on the other side, climbed up to sixth place in the Championship standings after a 3-1 victory over promotional rivals Brentford at Pride Park. The visitors will come into the game higher on confidence and we’ll definitely skip the home win pick at the 1.25 odds here.
